Think back to the start of the year...
Was 2013 going to be the year in which you would take control of
your life?
Was this the year in which you would take charge of your
financial future?
How's that working for you?
With four months of the year remaining, now is the perfect time
to set a new goal and see what you can achieve by the end of the
year.

A simple tip that works for me
==============================
This idea sounds simple, but don't be deceived by how simple it
sounds. It's VERY powerful...
Set yourself realistic deadlines - and be tough on yourself. And
then nice to yourself.
I'll explain...
Can you research and write one good article a day? In four hours?
One hour?
Whatever a realistic answer is for you, look at your watch, set a
deadline and don't stop - except for 10-minute breaks every hour
- until you have finished the task. Then congratulate yourself,
feel good, and give yourself a pleasant, meaningful reward. For
me, that's often a walk on the beach.
I learned how powerful deadlines are in another lifetime when I
was a cadet reporter for a little afternoon daily newspaper, in
Oamaru, New Zealand.
As you can imagine on an afternoon newspaper, the deadlines were
cruel. I'd rush back from a meeting, writing the intro in my
head, and reach the newspaper office sometimes only about 20
minutes before the deadline.
I remember one time when the deadline was getting REALLY close on
an important story. The editor was whisking each very small page
- one or two paragraphs - out of my old-fashioned typewriter as I
wrote them. There was no time for second thoughts or fancy
language! (Anyone out there remember typewriters?)
It's amazing what you can teach yourself to achieve when you face
a deadline when an article - or some other task - just HAS to be
completed.
Try it.
For your next task you want to get done, break it down into easy
50-minute chunks. Ignore emails and other distractions. Yes,
really.
Don't worry about trying to make the article perfect. Just bash
it out. Get it done. You can go back later and tidy it up.
Don't stop until your 50 minutes are up. You may be pleasantly
surprised how much you achieve in 50 minutes.
The quality you achieve may be better than you expect, too,
because you get "in the zone" and focus just on one thing at a
time.
The more you practise this, the better you'll get. It really does
work.
When your whole project - say, a bunch of articles, a new
website, a special report, or whatever - has been completed, give
yourself a bigger meaningful reward - maybe a long weekend off at
a health retreat with a loved one, or whatever works for you.
You can look forward to the big reward while you're doing the
project.

Talking about taking control of your financial future...
Setting deadlines is an excellent way to help you get out of a
rut and achieve a brighter financial future.
With practise, you'll change old bad routines and avoid ruts
permanently.
However, as you know, there's no point in just "building a
website" or "building a blog".
To build a profitable e-business, you need a proven system, and a
proven process to follow.

#557 APn: Are you afraid to sell?

I received a plea for help the other day from a new friend. His
affiliate website looks good, but it's not making many sales.
He was looking for tips on how to increase his conversion rates.
When I studied his website I could see he's making a common
mistake.

I don't want to embarrass my new friend, so I won't name him.
At first glance, his website looks OK.
It looks professional and credible. He's done careful research
and also used his own knowledge and experience to write
interesting, chatty, informative articles.
However, that's pretty much all he's done.
If YOUR site is like that, here's one thing you need to do to
increase your conversion rate...
Change your mindset.
Do you think of yourself as a web publisher, a provider of good,
reliable information, presented in a lively way?
If so, that's OK, but...
The affiliate's REAL job is a bit different. Your job is to Help
People Decide What To Buy. Your job is to be their respected,
trusted friend, recommending things they'll love.
For example, it might be OK to write an article describing an
enjoyable trip to Paris.
But don't stop there. Don't leave your readers hanging in mid-
air.
Instead, tell them how you got to Paris. Recommend the service
you used.
Aim to make your preselling articles a slippery chute, giving
helpful, friendly advice, leading the reader to a particular
product or service you recommend. Make it easy for them to know
where to click.
Here's another good option...
Instead of linking to just one product or service, provide a list
of the top 3 products you recommend, with descriptions that help
the reader decide which one is best for them.

Last week, my 94-year-old mother-in-law used her iPad to buy one
of Mike Geary's health ebooks. She hadn't been looking for a
product to buy. She was just searching for information. Somehow,
she ended up being yet another of Mike's customers.
Mike has sold more than a million ebooks, so if you want to know
how to sell, it's worth while studying his processes.
If you think of yourself as a writer, not a sales person, you may
have to learn to move out of our comfort zone. As an affiliate,
you don't have to actually ask for the sale, but you DO need to
make it really obvious which link you want your reader to click
on next. Mike does.
Here's an example you can see in action. (He's selling his own
product, not an affiliate product, but the principle is the
same.)
Mike, in case you don't know, it the Truth About Abs guy.
One thing he likes doing is writing articles which gain attention
by shocking or surprising people. Here's one, written a few years
ago, which has been tweeted, shared and liked many thousands of
times...
Are Whole Eggs or Egg Whites Better for You?

Scroll down to the end of his article, and you'll have no
hesitation at all in knowing where Mike wants you to click next.

The product he recommends isn't merely closely related to the
content of his article. In fact, his article is a slippery chute
leading you naturally to the product.
He comes across as a trusted expert, and then shows you what to
buy.

One of the veteran affiliates I approached for advice was
affiliate coach John Gibb, because I know he owns HUNDREDS of
blogs.
It was bad timing. John was stressing out.
He'd just had more than 300 of his blogs hacked and deleted -
including one BIG one. So he had to do some very fast learning on
blog security.
